The boys’ soccer team has never lost a first round playoff game and that still remains true after they emerged victorious in the bout against North Hagerstown, winning 2-1 and advancing in the playoff race.
The first goal of the game was scored by junior David Vences with an assist by junior Luis Rivera, giving the Rams a one point lead. “It was awesome to know that [I] contributed to a goal,” said Rivera. The defense played very well and held their opponents until the end of the first half, when a player from the opposing team managed to score a quick shot.
This may have added a little pressure, but the team came out ready to play in the second half of the game, showcasing a talented offense and a strong defense. The goal to put RHS ahead of North Hagerstown was scored by Rivera and the assist was awarded to senior Enzo Advincula. The defense put up a strong fight, with the help of returning senior Philip Dabney, and did not allow a second goal.
This victory brought the team closer together as a whole and their playoff hopes are still very much alive. “It is a great feeling to win a playoff game and accomplish the mission at hand,” said Vences. Vences hopes that this will make the team more aware that they are going to put up a fight in the playoffs and that they are a competitive school to be reckoned with.
The Rams were successful in their second playoff game winning 2-1 against the Century Jaguars Oct. 30. The expectations are high and their confidence is growing. “This was an important win for the team and just increases their confidence for the next opponent,” said junior Emmanuel Zabala. The team is now headed in the right direction toward, hopefully, a successful season end.
