Vendors from around the Rockville area will flock to RHS Saturday, Nov. 3 to take part in the school’s first Health and Wellness Fair, which will take place in the school’s gymnasium, cafeteria and hallways from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
RHS physical education teachers Mark Crichton, Julie James, Melissa Fischer and Debbie Williams conceived of the event as a way of fulfilling board certification requirements which stipulate that physical education teachers must interact with the community and parents. The idea caught on with local businesses seeking to promote their health-related products.
“If it goes really well, we’ll probably end up doing one annually,” said Fischer. Among the organizations represented at the fair will be Holy Cross Hospital and a number of fitness clubs offering free memberships and other goods. One company is even promoting its sports and antioxidant beverages at the fair, which has continued to attract more participants in the weeks before it is to take place.
Some staples of simple medical diagnostics will also be offered, including Body Mass Index and HIV tests. Hepatitis tests, as reported in error in the November issue of The Rampage, are not at present scheduled to take place at the fair.
