After three disappointing losses to Wootton, Clarksburg and Northpoint, the Rams were able to come out with a win at home against the Poolesville Falcons with a score of 39-0.
“It was a total team effort. We had two touchdowns on punt returns the defense held Poolesville to 197 yards and most were after the game was well in hand,” said varsity football coach Mark Maradei. The match-up was highlighted with a solid game from the defense and special teams. The majority of the Falcons yards came when the Rams put in their second and third strings into the game.
Without much playing time, both senior Tarik Paul and junior Malcolm Robinson made a big impact on the outcome of the game, each scoring on a punt return touchdown. Robinson had a pair of rushing touchdowns and Paul also had one of his own.
With this win the playoff hopes for the Rams have not yet died out. If the Rams beat the Blake Bengals Nov. 9 and Northwood loses its game at Kennedy, then the Rams will be in the playoffs for the first time since 1995. “We have been working for a shot since last December or, actually, since we were eliminated last year after the last regular season game,” said Maradei.
The Rams will try and take this win, breaking a three game losing streak, into the game against the Bengals Nov. 9. If this playoff dream happens, all the hard work that the Rams have done this season and in the off season of last year will pay off.
