Boys' Soccer Comes Up Short in Playoff Run
By Zack Thomas

After back to back playoff wins against North Hagerstown and Century, the boys’ varsity soccer team was unable to pull off a victory at Liberty High School, losing 2-0.

The Rams were scheduled to take on Liberty High School, located in Carroll County, Friday Nov. 2. The game began with a sloppy start and ball possession was constantly changing. Liberty’s first goal was scored by a Rockville deflection, which hit off of RHS senior Victor Aldana. Later in the half, Liberty scored their second goal off a shot that hit the crossbar and was unexpectedly finished by a Liberty forward.

Liberty was more physical and more aggressive than RHS, which contributed to the 2-0 loss for the Rams. Throughout coach Abdel Makhlouf’s career at RHS, he has yet to beat Liberty. This game was no different than the others because Liberty, unlike RHS, had a stadium full of loyal fans cheering them on.

According to the Washington Post and a number of spectators, RHS was the underdog in this match up. “I don’t feel that we were underdogs, I just feel that Liberty’s offense overpowered our defense this game,” said junior David Vences.

Liberty has now moved on to the regional finals and will take on the Clarksburg Coyotes. As for our varsity Rams, “[They] will prepare hard in the off-season to be more prepared for next season,” said junior Emmanuel Zabala.
