Back for another season of swim and dive is none other then Coach Aaron Schwartz, who is looking to the upperclassmen’s leadership this year to take the team to the Championship Meet. With promising senior swimmers this season, the team is headed for a breakout season.
Led by senior captains Lauren Damone, Kelsey Wilson-Henjum, Jimmy Spahn and Matt Kubasik, the swimmers will be working hard to beat last year’s record. The girls’ record was undefeated but, unfortunately, they couldn’t move on to the Championships because of low scores from the boys’ team. The guys only won one meet last year, but Coach Schwartz is hoping that they will be able to improve their record.
With this year’s incoming freshmen, Coach Schwartz is positive that the season will be different. Freshmen Daniel Wolf and Steven Noll have reputations for being good swimmers and are being looked at to help bring up the men’s scores this season.
To improve the whole team’s overall times, the team is scheduled to practice every Monday and Wednesday at the Gaithersburg Aquatic Center. New to this year’s schedule the team will have dry lands conditioning every Thursday after school.
Instead of only exercising in the water, they could run and workout out in the weight room. Schwartz thinks the extra work will pay-off with faster times for all the swimmers. “A lot of the swimmers have been doing training out of season, so they will be in good shape to start the season off,” said Schwartz.
