The Kraus family recently donated a brand new microwave oven to the RHS PTSA; the microwave has found its home in the cafeteria.
The Kraus family donated the appliance after a friend of theirs suggested it as an added incentive to the students’ dining hall. After the donation was made, the PTSA chose its current home with help and suggestions from the RHS kitchen staff. The only required maintenance is a daily check to ensure that there are no blown fuses. The rest of the work, including cleaning and maintaining the appliance, is in the hands of the students.
A second microwave was also donated; this one, however, was sent to the PTSA pizza stand. The PTSA’s microwave is currently used for the after school snack stand that is available to students and staff on a daily basis. “I feel that the new microwave has brought better food to our school,” said junior Nana Agyen.
The microwave in the cafeteria has a cook center command and a defrost center. The cook center has various commands in which are labeled fresh vegetables, bake potatoes, frozen vegetables, ground meat, rice and frozen entrées. The defrost center has four commands: ground meat, boneless poultry, steaks/chops and bone-in poultry.
Students may use this microwave oven as they please, but as with any privilege, they are also responsible for its well-being. Those who use it must also maintain its cleanliness, as always, and students should also be aware that use of the appliance is a privilege, not a right.
