Athletes have to deal with the pressures of school and the sports they play, but some athletes also have the task of having to stress about jobs, significant others, and family problems.
Jobs take up a significant part of any person’s life. The goal of most people’s lives is to have fun in life and make a lot of money. In order to keep a good paying job you need to work a large amount of hours each week, most of the time working only on weekends is normally not enough to maintain any high paying job. Athletes constantly work on their individual skills for their particular sports, not giving much time to spend on jobs.
If an athlete does have a job then they are basically going to be busy all day, every day. “I have to work so much it’s really surprising how I manage all of my activities,” said senior Justin Yin. Different jobs require different forms of dedication, which can be a problem for focusing on improving ones sports skills. In general most athletes do not get jobs during the season, mainly because of their time commitment.
People also have a lot have problems dealing with the pressures of having a boyfriend or girlfriend. This is a large problem because this can be a large distraction for athlete’s skills. Emotions are a key to playing well in any sport. If any athlete is focused on love more than sports they will have a tough time playing a good game.
Some athletes with significant others can handle their sport and their relationship. Said senior Fabian Aguilar “I knew that she would accept all I would do… I did not have to worry about the problems of the relationship.”
If any one has parents splitting or difficulty in school they understand how hard it is to pay attention. Some cannot handle their stress. “I have had problems with my parents because of my grades. While I was playing sports I was thinking of my other problems.”
