The baseball team got off to a slow start losing the first three games, but has managed to turn their losing streak around somewhat, winning two out of the three latest games. Now, with a 2-4 record, the team looks to finish the season off strong and get the record over .500 before the playoffs.
Victories include home games won against the Poolesville Falcons and the Wheaton Knights. Losses include home games lost to the Paint Branch Panthers and Walter Johnson Wildcats, and away games lost to the Churchill Bulldogs and Clarksburg Coyotes. The Rams amounted nine runs in their six at bats and won the game against the Falcons with a final score of 9-7. The Wheaton game turned into a pitching dual which the Rams won 3-0, and they scored one run each in the first, fourth and sixth innings.
After the three losses at the beginning of the season, head coach Farron Riggs decided to move infielders around because he felt that they were not playing up to par. Riggs switched first baseman senior captain Justin Hall and third baseman captain Austin Pumphrey. He also switched sophomore second baseman Christopher Osgood with senior captain shortstop Thomas McTighe, and since the switch the Rams have been much more successful in the field.
As a team starting Osgood, sophomore Daniel Moroney and freshman catcher Chris Brown the team is young and the main focus has been trying to gain varsity experience. The ace starting pitcher has been junior David Starks, who started the season with a 2-0 record, winning both of his start opportunities. Osgood has finished out the two wins on the mound and converted both of his save opportunities.
Most of the run production comes from the bats of Brown batting in the third spot in the order, Hall who has been batting fourth, Pumphrey in the fifth spot and senior Kevin Carey batting sixth.
