Cheerleaders Ready to Bring Spirit to RHS
By Megan Nichols

The RHS Rams’, who went into the playoffs last year, are starting another season strong with a 1-0 record defeating Northwood High School Gladiators away, but at home due to the Gladiators’ field not being ready.

The cheerleaders and pompons have been practicing daily on their routines and cheers. “We have been going over cheers repeatedly to make sure every cheerleader is sharp so we don’t look bad at the games” said cheerleading captain and senior Danyelle Brevard.

Starting this year the cheerleaders are doing pre game with the marching band and the pompons every home game. In past years it was only pompons and marching band that did it but they needed more people in formations on the field and asked if the cheerleaders could help. “I love doing pre game though it is hard work and there is so many different formations,” said captain and senior Jocelyn Threatt.

Not just the cheerleaders are working hard at practices the Rams are working just as hard if not harder. The Rams are hard at work with practice everyday and eating in Coach Mark Maradei’s room during lunch everyday. The Rams winning the first game 40-18 against the Gladiators gave the players a big boost of confidence though winning does not mean they do not practice just as hard as the week before.

Also the pompons are hard at work for their halftime performance and also for pre game as well. The pompons practice daily just like other sports. Their halftime performance is helping them build stamina and work on their sharpness for their competition routine which ranges about seven minutes. “These halftime routines helps us figure out what we need to work on and prepare for competition,” said captain and senior Stephanie Golub.

This Friday the Rams will be playing the Richard Montgomery High School Rockets at RHS for the first official home game of the season. The Rockets have been a rival of RHS for a long time which brings in a lot of fans. Supporting the Rams are the cheerleaders, pompons, marching band, the student body and all the parents and staff.
