Fresh faces are flooding the halls of RHS, many of them belonging to teachers. Mrs. Cheryl Wall, the new Food Trends instructor, is one of the new teachers to add her name to the Rockville High school staff.
Mrs. Wall, though she has lived in Montgomery County for 30 years, grew up in Pennsylvania. When she was young, she already knew what destiny had in store for her. “I was always going to be a teacher…since I was a little girl, I was always going to be a teacher,” Mrs. Wall says. After finishing high school, Mrs. Wall attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Indiana P.A. and worked at the non-for-profit in Washington D.C. as a trading specialist.
In the 1970s, Mrs. Wall moved to Montgomery County. Upon finishing her education, Mrs. Wall made her entrance into that very field. Though she did face a dilemma in deciding which subject to inspire in, “It was a tossup between P.E. and foods,” she says with a smile, “I don’t know why I decided one or the other.” She has now been teaching for nine years, and taught middle school before moving on to the major leagues - high school.
Mrs. Wall, before making her debut at RHS, taught at Damascus high school for six years. Her first impressions of Rockville are good ones. Mrs. Wall says, “When you change, you know, any situation, you have to adapt to new things, but I really like the students here at Rockville .”
The new Food Trends teacher at Rockville is not just your ordinary chef. Her off-time activities include gardening, hiking, camping, and kayaking. “I just like the outdoors,” she says, “I like doing things outside.” Along with her love of the outdoors, of course, is her love of cooking. After taking a couple of seconds to ponder all of the dishes she has prepared, she concludes, “my favorite dish to cook is probably my own lasagna recipe.”
Mrs. Wall’s entrance into RHS is sure to reap support from the students and her fellow staff members due to her expertise and love of teaching.
