Students work in the library during lunch, but they won't be able to next semester--April Estelle

Students React To The New Lunch Policy
By Esteeri Kabonero

Students were told yesterday about the administrations decisions to make a two-lunch period, instead of one big period. By doing this, half the student body would be going to lunch after fourth period, while the other half would be going after fifth period. Because students failed to keep the halls, as well as the cafeteria clean the administration decided to enforce the new policy.

This policy will be implemented for the second semester. Most students find this unfair. Said sophomore Brianna Elois, "I think its not a good [idea], thats where everybody needs to socialize and be with their friends." Friends will be separated when some students go to the first lunch, while others go to the second lunch. Lunch is the only time in school when people really chat with their friends.

This policy is sure to fail because so many people need the lunch period to get help from most teachers and finish their homework. Teachers would not be able to help students because most teachers would be teaching classes. Also, retakes are designed usually during lunch. It would be hard for teachers to give retakes at lunch when they are teaching a class.

Clubs and other activities during lunch will also be affected. Said senior Bictoria Clark, "I feel like its a really bad idea...there's kids doing clubs, they would not be able to do [their club]." Clubs would have to meet after school to involve all members, which some students cannot do.

Not only is this policy unfair, but also it was a surprise to all. Some students feel that having a new policy by next semester is changing a system to fast. "Even if this policy is going to happen, why should it be next semester not next year, we have done this [lunch period] since I was a freshman, "said senior Camille Dulic?

As students try to fight their way out of this policy, the administration has stuck to their plan. Students have to show the administration that having one period of lunch can also be a controlled, safe environment. If not, it seems that next semester our student body is going to be divided.
