On Oct. 2, SGA President Darryle Nditafon announced on WRAMtv News that the student body has until next Tuesday to “get our act together” in an effort to stop the lunch change.
The change, reported by The Rampage on Sept. 23, has since created a storm of confusion and outrage. The student body, in essence, has adopted “Save Our Lunch” as their new slogan. In addition to it appearing behind the football team during last Friday’s game, it is also the title of a Facebook group – which now has over 300 members.
The announcement by Nditafon needs to be taken to heart by students. Despite recent improvements by the student population, the lunch schedule remains under intense scrutiny. There remains a grave chance that lunches will be shortened to account for the students’ ‘unproductive’ use of their time. The students should not let this possibility become fact.
Not only would a shortened lunch period severely hinder students in their attempts to keep up with assignments, gather in study groups, and discuss with teachers, it would also cause problems for clubs and extracurricular activities.
As the Tuesday deadline approaches, students must remain deeply rooted in their attempts to behave better during lunch. If students are unable to display their growth and improvements by the deadline, our extended and necessary lunch schedule may be a thing of the past.
