Buy nice clothes, find fancy shoes and get those tickets; homecoming is coming up this week at RHS. RHS students are getting ready for this fun-packed week which includes four days of unique spirit days, a homecoming pep rally, a football game and a dance.
Students start off the week with a spirit week during which everyone dresses up according to the theme of the day. This year, Monday Oct. 13 is twin day, Tuesday Oct. 14 is career day, Wednesday Oct. 15 is culture day and Thursday Oct. 16 is ram day.
One of the most popular spirit week events is the hall decorating competition between grades. Each class decorates a section of the second floor hallway at the end of spirit week the day of the homecoming game. These halls all pertain to a theme. This year’s is “Around the World” and each class has a specific continent which they have to base their hallway design on in hopes of getting first place.
Also, there is a homecoming pep rally on Thursday Oct. 16 which many different events happen. There is a tradition at RHS in which the senior guys ‘sweep’ the freshman. Each guy paints their bodies with RHS seniors or something supporting the senior class and has brooms. “Homecoming pep rally is something I really enjoy because it shows our pride as a class and as a school,” said senior Stephanie Campos.
After an exciting pep rally everyone goes home to get ready for the big homecoming football game. This year we are playing a tough opponent, the Clarksburg High School Coyotes. Halftime is a fun time where the pompons perform as well as the marching band. Also during halftime, the homecoming prince and princesses are announced. “Homecoming football games are so fun because everyone comes and it [is] so high spirited,” says sophomore Kelsey Boyd.
Last, but certainly not least, is the homecoming dance. Students dress up in nice clothes and go out for dinner with a group of friends or dates. After dinner, students go to the RHS gymnasium where they dance the night away with their friends and classmates.
