Adolescents Face Dangers On The Internet
By Neysi Velasquez

Millions of adolescents worldwide connect to the internet from their homes, their schools, and even their cell phones. Nevertheless, what is the true reality of the internet? Is it a useful source for people, or is it in fact a silent enemy; a possible danger to children and adolescents?

In addition to cybercafés and libraries adolescents can access the internet fairly easily. As a result, you can be 100 percent sure that adolescents today take constant risks surfing the internet. Although the internet has a dark side to it, it also offers benefits for the public; however everything has its negative effect.

The internet can be a useful tool to all. For instance, the internet offers entertainment and information for school. The internet has also made it easy for college bound students. Instead of applying to college by mail, students can apply online. Not only is this way faster, but it saves more money.

However, the internet allows all kinds of individuals without morals navigating through it. Many adolescents will give too much information about themselves to people on the internet. As a result that is when the danger arrives; when innocent young children and adolescents experience sexual harassment by sexual predators.

In fact, according to statistics specialists conclude that everyday there may be as much as 750,000 sexual predators surfing the internet, waiting to take advantage of an innocent child in most of the chatting sites and portal sites, such as MySpace and Facebook.

As a result, all parents need to be aware of all the dangers and risks the internet may cause for our youth. We all need to advise our young children how to surf the internet safely to protect them from all the dangers. That way, the internet will no longer be considered a dangerous tool for our young children, but it will be seen as a helpful and beneficial tool.
