As many of us know, the nation of Haiti was devastated by a tragic earthquake that left many buildings and homes destroyed with an estimated 150,000 casualties. The fashion industry has pulled together to organize a nation-wide effort to help the victims of the disaster.

In an effort to raise mony, CFDA created “Fashion for Haiti.” Every time someone purchases a “Fashion for Haiti” T-shirt, the net proceeds will benefit the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. Created by President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush, CBHF supports the long term recovery and helps those who are most in need.

“I think it is now important to send a message and create a channel for funding from fashion as an industry,” said President of CFDA Diane von Furstenberg in an interview.

These T-shirts are available at over 100 stores and boutiques nationwide, including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Coach and Saks Fifth Avenue for only $25. These T-shirts recently went on sale on Feb. 16. For more information, visit http://www.cfda.com.

Other organizations in the Fashion Industry have also come up with ways to help. The Feed Foundation has designed a tote bag that will provide 50 school meals for kids in Haiti. Naomi Campbell also came up with a Fashion For Relief charity fashion show and auction. This fashion show took place during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion week on Feb. 12th. It was a considered a success as it hosted a number of internationally known designers. The efforts of this fashion show will go towards rebuilding Haiti’s healthcare system.

There were also many donated garments that are being auctioned online at NET-A-PORTER, an online fashion store. Whatever way you donate, you are taking part in making a difference and helping out those in need in Haiti – so make a fashion statement while you are at it!
