The first ever International Day took place on April 2. Organized by counseling secretary Alejandra Mendez, the day featured an assembly and a food tasting at lunch for $2.

The assembly consisted of various dance and vocal performances as well as a fashion show. The Asian American club performed a dance to a mix of contemporary asian songs.

Freshman Jet Li was a part of the dance and felt good about being a part of the dance. “We’ve been practicing a lot a�� Internation Day is really important because it uses cultural aspects to diversify perspective,” Li said.

The Latin Dance club also performed a number. There were solo artists as well. Sophomore Melanie Elgueta performed a chilean song, Gracias por La Vida and Senior Bertram Henry III performed a rap he wrote himself.

Junior James Pierre, the host for the assembly, got involved through being an aid with the counseling department. He feels like this even was great for RHS. “It’s good to experience culture different from your own to become closer as a community and find similarities of the different cultures to connect people,” Pierre said.

The food included a wide array of food from Mexico, Italy, and many other countries. Students payed $2 dollars to sample the food at lunch, and many students brought dishes in.

Senior Raquel Gleicher thought the food was really good. “It was definitely worth the $2. It was really good and it showed me a lot about how different the food is in every culture,” Gleicher said.
