School Receives 17 New Promethean Boards

Over the summer, RHS received 17 new Promethean boards with support from MCPS and the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). Now, all the math, English and social studies classes have Promethean boards.

“[This will] hopefully be making interactive learning much more prevalent in the building,” said Principal Billie Jean Bensen.

The media center also received a new board so now there are two boards, one in the front and one in the back, which allows two classes to instruct simultaneously. All of the computer labs, except for the writing lab, all have Promethean boards in them now as well.

The new Promethean board in the media center is very convenient in multiple ways. “It makes it easier to teach students by the computers and it’s touch screen so it gets a clearer picture. Also, we can have multiple classes at a time in the media center,” said Media Specialist Sherry Weiss.

Usually adding boards in schools is a more gradual process instead of adding 17 at a time. “Unfortunately Rockville hadn’t been adding two or three at a time over the last 10 years, so we went full force and used a significant amount of money to make that happen this year,” said Bensen.

Teachers and students are excited for the new boards and a more technologically savvy school.
